The Fountain of Youth
It’s a known fact that Asian women look younger, more youthful than their exact ages. This fact is very true, especially for Filipina women. My mother, mother-in-law, and aunts are living proof of the this known youthfulness. What’s their secret you ask? Well, it’s coconut water. My mother is a huge advocate for all of us to keep drinking coconut water. Coconut water contains cytokinin’s, kinetin.
A study published in the Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications showed coconut waters strong anti-aging effects on human skin cells. In the study, kinetin slowed down the aging processes and enhanced cell division.
My mother credits her youthful appearance to Coconut Water. She is 65 years old and looks a decade younger. And can you believe my mother-in-law is 70 years old?
Potassium for Growing Children
Coconut water is loaded with potassium. It has more potassium than bananas and strawberries. Potassium is essential for growing bones. Potassium’s role in bone health is the salts in potassium help neutralize bone-depleting metabolic acids. Potassium also conserves calcium in the body. Many children today drink enriched sodium drinks which have high acidity in their body and can deplete calcium levels. Drinking coconut water can help restore metabolic balance in one’s body. My children drink a bottle of Vita Coconut water daily. It keeps them hydrated and helps their bones. Bone health is essential for all women but more importantly little girls.
Any woman who has been pregnant knows the pain of a Charley Horse, a.k.a. leg cramps. It’s hard to sleep when you are pregnant due to your tummy’s growing weight and now you add leg cramps on top of it. Leg cramps in pregnancy can signal two things, lack of nutrients or dehydration. Coconut water is a natural remedy for both symptoms. The high concentration of potassium, vitamins, and electrolytes in coconut water help reverse dehydration and replenish the body with nutrients.

Many Filipinos are fortunate to drink coconut water in its raw form, straight from the coconut tree. But Coconuts are not grown in the US and must be flash pasteurized. Once a coconut is cracked open it begins to oxidize and is open to bacteria. Pasteurization kills the bacteria but also kills off the nutrients and electrolytes that can only be obtained from fresh, raw coconut water.
Coconut Water primarily comes from 3rd world countries such as the Philippines. Many of the farmers that provide coconut water are very poor simple people. With the rise in popularity of coconut water in America, coconuts are the main exporter in the Philippines. Due to the growing demand for Coconut Water, many poor families are able to provide an education for their children because of the extra income now generated from coconut water. So, drink up and think of the good you are doing for the those less fortunate.
