Why Sell or Buy Real Estate in Atlanta
In a recent article by the Home Buying Institute, Atlanta’s Housing Market is predicted to outperform the national average in 2019. You may ask WHY? There are many factors but two of the main factors are Atlanta’s population and economic growth. Atlanta ranks third in the nation for concentration of fortune 500 companies. Atlanta’s population has also boomed and is on track to surpass Philadelphia’s population very soon.
All of these factors come together to create the perfect selling scenario in Atlanta Real Estate, a housing shortage and buyer demand.
Meet Clyde – Atlanta Real Estate Maven
My brother, in all honesty, is rather lazy. He would agree and I’m only telling the truth out of love. That is why when he purchased his first home in 2011 and said he would fix it up little by little, I was very skeptical.
You see, Clyde lived with my husband and I in our brand new Atlanta townhome for two years while he worked as a high school history teacher. When he wasn’t working, Clyde was coaching high school soccer, tennis or playing his playstation.
In 2011, I became pregnant with my first child, my Call of Duty loving History Teacher brother, decided it was time relocate to a place of his own.
Around 2011 the housing market was in a downward slump because of the recession. It was a buyers market! Clyde took advantage of the market and moved his IKEA bed and his plastic rolling drawers, which served as his clothes cabinet, to his new home.
Clyde found this charming 2 bedroom, 1 bath house house on the border of Mableton and Smyrna. A perfect location right off of 285 South Cobb Exit and only 10 minutes away from his big sis.
The most amazing thing about Clyde’s new home was that it only cost him $50K to purchase. His house payment was literally the same as his car payment, $350 a month!
The house was originally built in the 1950’s and had all the original kitchen cabinets, sinks, lighting and floors. It needed some updating!
Updating on a Teacher Budget
As you can imagine, a first year teacher doesn’t make a lot of money. So, when it was time for Clyde to update his cabinets, floors, and fixtures, he was in a dilemma. But no worries, big Sis was there to help.
I suggested to Clyde to find his much needed supplies at Habitat for Humanity Restores in the Metro Atlanta Area. During his summer breaks, we would visit various Restores and find some amazing items to update his home. Many of the items were new! Straight out of the box and donated by various builders in the area who had excess materials.
Items you can find at Habitat Restores:
- Home Décor
- Office Furniture
- Building Materials
- Lighting and Electrical
By updating his home with Restore products and DIY labor Clyde saved more than 5K in remodeling costs.
Atlanta Real Estate Sale
In March of 2018, Clyde had a life change. He was tired and burnt out from teaching and decided he wanted to travel by teaching abroad. He decided to place his home on the market for 135K . Within a day, Clyde had multiple offers for more than the asking price!

He sold his home April of 2018 for 140K! A profit of 80K!
Since selling his home for profit, Richard paid off his 10K student loan debt and has traveled to Rome, Greece, Portugal, and Spain. He has trips planned for Germany and Japan.
In the near future, Clyde plans on buying another home in Atlanta and selling it for profit later.
