If you live in Atlanta or planning on visiting Atlanta in the near future, it’s an absolute must to try bubble tea (Boba) at one of these 5 places in Metro Atlanta. Four of these places are located on what road …. if you said Peachtree Street then you’re wrong (although it’s a high probability considering almost every other road in Atlanta is named Peachtree Street). But no, four of the bubble tea places in Atlanta are on the iconic foodie road called Buford Highway.

What is Bubble Tea?
The short version of describing Bubble Tea to anyone who isn’t familiar with it is, The Asian Smoothie. Bubble Tea, also known as BOBA (slang for big boobs in Mandarin) originated in Taiwan in the 80’s. It comes in many tea and fruit flavors in a non-slushy, slushy or coffee form. What gives Bubble Tea its Asian twist is the Boba (black Tapioca Pearls) affectionately known as “bubbles” at the bottom of the drink.
Boba and Jellies
As I mentioned, Boba is the larger tapioca black pearls that are about ¼ in diameter which is standard in many bubble teas. However, there are jellies you can substitute instead of boba. If you are feeling exotic, try coconut jelly (macupono), aloe vera jelly, lychee jelly, herbal grass jelly, longan or jackfruit jellies.
Why drink Bubble Tea?
It’s fun and tastes great! The drink is a real treat and considered a dessert for many. It has eye appeal with colorful drink flavors and bubbles. Children love to drink and then chew Boba. My son (20 months old ) will drink until he sucks up a Boba and happily chews away at it.
Since its summer time and an ice slushy bubble tea is a must to cool down with, here are the ATL’s best Bubble Tea Places.
ATL’s best Bubble Tea Places
1. Cafe Mozart Bakery -5301 Buford Highway
Located inside the perimeter on Buford Highway, Cafe Mozart Bakery has seven other locations in Metro Atlanta and offers a great variety of Boba Teas. They also offer fresh baked goods in a quiet, spacious environment. My daughter loves their large selection of colorful Macaroons to go with her Bubble Tea.
Recommendation: The Green Tea Bubble Tea Slush is amazing! It’s like drinking green tea ice cream. You can really taste the matcha.
2. Kung Fu Tea – 5280 Buford Highway
Directly across and to the left of Cafe Mozart Bakery is Kung Fu Tea. Besides having an awesome logo ( love the colors). They are a chain with international locations in Canada, Australia and Vietnam. They have 4 locations in Atlanta and deal strictly with tea. Can’t get any eats here people but that’s okay because they have Bubble Tea down to a science.
Recommendation: The Taro (Ube) Bubble Tea Slushy is delicious!
3. Sweet Hut – 5150 Buford HWY, Suite A-100
Just a few blocks down from Kung Fu Tea is Sweet Hut Bakery & Café. This bakery has 5 locations in metro Atlanta and one in Texas. I spend much money at Sweet Hut not because of the Bubble Tea but because of the yummy baked goods. They have a large variety of baked goods from Asian & European countries. Baked treats paired with bubble tea and 11 different types of toppings, makes Sweet Hut a great place to sip and eat. If you are feeling adventurous, Sweet Hut also has bubble tea and pudding mixtures that will give your taste buds a little spin.
For a limited time, place an order online and receive 15% off. I highly recommend this because Sweet Hut stays packed.
Recommendation: Try the QC Custard Pudding Milk Tea or the Mango Green Tea Slush.
4. Quickly – 5090 Buford Highway
Also a couple of blocks from Sweet Hut Bakery & Café is the Taiwanese chain Bubble Tea chain called Quickly. They have locations in various Asian countries. Quickly has an amazing variety of bubble tea flavors that you can’t find at other bubble tea shops. Flavors such as Chocolate, Green Apple, Choc Taro, Blueberry, Peach, Mango Pineapple and Kiwi. You can also choose between Boba or Jelly’s to add to your bubble tea. Quickly also has fruit teas mixed with coffee to give you wings and fly.
Recommendation: You will inhale the Chocolate Bubble Tea and the Mango Pineapple Bubble Tea is summer refreshing.
5. Oriental Marketplace – Newnan, GA
Saving the best for last. This last location is not located on Buford Highway but resides Southwest of Metro Atlanta in Newnan, Georgia. This family-owned store takes great pride in their bubble teas. They are voted best local bubble tea outside Metro Atlanta and have great fresh made meals you can purchase such as Poke, Spring Rolls, and Bahn Mi. You can also stock up on your Asian foods and with grocery store purchases of $70 or more, you can get a free bubble tea. With over 70 flavors of bubble tea, you will sure to find your favorite flavor.
Recommendation: Try the Avocado and Honeydew Bubble Teas and grab an awesome Carry On and Drink Boba t-shirt.
